What Makes a McKibbon Hotel General Maintenance Engineer?
As a member of the property maintenance team, the General Maintenance Engineer is accountable for the proper functioning of the hotel. This includes maintaining plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and pool facilities, as well as general facilities upkeep. The General Maintenance Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for delivering high-quality work to ensure minimal guest disruption. Candidates should have experience in construction trades such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, basic heating and air conditioning, pool maintenance, painting, caulking, or similar skills. A Day in the Life:
- The General Maintenance Engineer monitors the interior and exterior operations of the hotel.
- Follows McKibbon Hospitality guidelines to protect company assets, staff, and guests.
- Promotes enhanced guest satisfaction.
- Performs various engineering and construction trades.
- May train others in engineering skills and trades.
- Interacts with employees and guests, demonstrating effective communication skills.
- Fosters a collaborative, proactive, and interactive environment among hotel staff.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in maintenance or similar roles.
- Ability to communicate operational activities, priorities, and issues effectively with management and staff.
- Knowledge of common causes of equipment malfunction.
- Ability to repair and replace basic heating and air conditioning systems.
- Skills in basic painting and caulking.
- Proficiency with standard hand tools (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, electrical testers, etc.).
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques.
- Ability to perform tests to ensure normal operation of hotel equipment.
- Knowledge of pool and spa chemical testing.
- Understanding of fire equipment handling (fire extinguishers, hoses, etc.).
- Experience in construction trades (highly desired).
- Previous hotel experience (highly desired).
- Ability to respond appropriately to customer complaints, comments, or inquiries.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective use of tangible and verbal techniques to resolve equipment issues or conflicts.
- Skill in selecting appropriate tools, parts, and equipment for maintenance tasks.
