Job description

Job Description

This is a regular, full‑time position working late‑shift hours, providing general maintenance services to the campus. Occasional overtime and weekend coverage may be required as needed. This position may require the individual to respond to emergencies after normal business hours as determined by the supervisor.

Essential Functions
  • Perform preventive maintenance, as scheduled, on all equipment.
  • Be alert for problems, and when detected, report them to schedule for repair.
  • Assist in the training of other maintenance personnel in areas where the individual has experience/expertise not possessed by other members of the maintenance team.
  • Perform maintenance tasks as assigned and within the limits of experience and training.
  • Where possible, work with contractors to provide them with assistance.
  • Ensure the proper and efficient use of materials, tools and equipment (including vehicles) belonging to the University's maintenance department.
  • Maintain a safe and clean shop and other work areas.
  • Have contact with all other areas to discuss or perform work requested.
  • Interact professionally with vendors or contractors.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision as required.
  • Complete and close out work orders correctly.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and operate equipment correctly, abiding by all OSHA and other safety rules and regulations.
  • Be able to work and interact positively within a diverse, multi‑cultural environment, and communicate with all members of the campus community in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Must maintain a civil and professional relationship with all members of the campus community.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, or assistant supervisor, within the scope of the job description and training and experience.

Working Conditions

Maintenance personnel, by definition, may be exposed to various hazards while performing assigned duties. These hazards can be, but are not limited to, working around electrical devices, pressurized pipes and containers, hot water/steam, exposure to various chemicals, dust, molds, heat, cold, working at heights above six feet from ground level, working inside confined spaces, around power equipment and machinery, etc. While Bellarmine University makes every effort to maintain a safe and accident‑free working environment, potential hazards do exist.

Requirements

2-5 years general maintenance skills, i.e., basic plumbing, carpentry, etc.

Possess a valid driver's license and have an MVR that passes the criteria set by our insurance carriers.
