Job summary

Wilson Elser is seeking a General Liability Associate Attorney for our Albany, NY office, with a flexible hybrid work arrangement and a national platform. The role emphasizes independent caseload management, rigorous litigation work, and collaboration with seasoned partners.

You will handle diverse matters, conduct depositions, draft pleadings, and manage discovery while maintaining client communications and pursuing favorable outcomes.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in New York and in good standing.
• 1+ years of commercial and/or liability defense litigation experience.
• Experience handling commercial litigation, general liability, and/or other liability defense matters.
• Strong knowledge of civil procedure and rules of evidence.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to independently manage a caseload while collaborating with partners.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a litigation caseload from inception through resolution, including commercial and general liability matters.
• Handle a variety of complex litigation matters, including business and contract disputes, negligence claims, and premises liability.
• Work closely with fellow attorneys and Partners on case strategy and litigation initiatives.
• Conduct and defend depositions, attend court appearances, and represent clients in litigation.
• Manage all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, reviewing documents, and preparing witnesses.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents, including pretrial motions.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop effective litigation strategies.
• Maintain regular communication with clients, providing timely case updates and strategic recommendations.
• Evaluate case exposure and assist in developing strategies for favorable outcomes.

The Position

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, reviewing documents, and preparing witnesses.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents, including pretrial motions.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop effective litigation strategies.
• Maintain regular communication with clients, providing timely case updates, status reports, and strategic recommendations.
• Evaluate case exposure, assess potential liability, and assist in developing strategies for favorable case outcomes.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of commercial and/or liability defense litigation experience.
• Experience handling commercial litigation, general liability, and/or other liability defense matters.
• Familiarity with matters involving business disputes, contract disputes, negligence claims, premises liability, and other civil litigation matters preferred.
• Strong knowledge of applicable rules of evidence, civil procedure, and litigation practices.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to independently manage a caseload while working collaboratively with attorneys and Partners.

Wilson Elser offers a competitive salary and benefits package designed to support our attorneys both professionally and personally.

A variety of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands, other business and organizational needs, and other factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for discretionary bonuses. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. This position is considered full-time and therefore qualifies for benefits including 401(k) retirement savings plan, medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

Salary Range:

$130,000 - $150,000 USD
