Job summary

Barnhill Contracting Company is seeking a general laborer to support asphalt paving and grading crews in the Southeast region. You will perform unskilled tasks, assist with spotter duties, and operate basic tools under supervision, contributing to safe, on-time project completion.

Expect long hours, exposure to heat and cold, weekend shifts, and a strong emphasis on safety. Training is provided, and equal opportunity employment is offered by Barnhill Contracting Company.

Qualifications

• One year experience; will train the right person.
• Encourage a valid NC Drivers License.
• Willingness to learn multiple task(s).
• Ability to abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies.
• Maintain a good attendance and safety record.
• Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Responsibilities

• Performs unskilled tasks associated with asphalt paving and/or grading operations (e.g., shoveling asphalt, stone, or dirt).
• Uses tools such as a shovel, rake, lute, broom, pick, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer, drill, tamp, and concrete saw.
• May operate a farm-type tractor with power broom attachment.
• Perform duties of the designated spotter; training will be conducted.
