Job summary

SMSI in Springfield, United States, is seeking a General Laborer to join our Machine Shop team. You will support daily shop operations, material handling, equipment operation, inventory, and general organization while assisting teammates.

The role requires tape measure accuracy, forklift experience, and a safety-conscious mindset. OSHA-10 certification is preferred, welding experience is a plus, and you must be able to work independently or with a team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a general labor, warehouse, manufacturing, or shop environment preferred.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
• Forklift operation experience.
• Welding experience preferred.
• OSHA 10 certification willing to obtain.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and take on various tasks.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid Class E driver's license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate cutting equipment and saws; training will be provided.
• Assist with organizing materials, products, and work areas.
• Maintain and monitor inventory of shop materials and supplies.
• Keep the shop clean, safe, and organized.
• Load and unload materials using a forklift.
• Package and prepare shipments for delivery.
• Assist with local deliveries to customers as needed.
• Accurately measure materials using a tape measure.
• Support other shop employees with production and material handling tasks.
• Follow all company safety procedures and workplace guidelines.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily shop operations.
• This position is safety-sensitive.
