COUNTY OF GREENE JOB VACANCY

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance, Recreation, Trail

Position: General Laborers

Salary: $12.00/hour / Non-Exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week

Overtime as Required by Supervisor—Some Weekend as needed

Benefits: NONE

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB

To assist in the completion of routine general laborer tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB

  • Cuts grass, trims, and maintains grass and county assigned properties.
  • Sweeps, rakes and shovels a variety of materials, garbage and debris.
  • Assists in completing general labor tasks.
  • Operates cutting equipment.
  • Assists in completing mirror repair including plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning and/or carpentry duties in the department.
  • Installs and makes minor repairs to damaged equipment.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and hand tools; tractors, vehicles and other equipment or plows snow as needed.
  • Makes rounds to ensure safety within buildings and/or parks and reports repairs to Manager.
  • Transports/halls and loads a variety of materials—including animal debris-- to/from department.
  • Assists in the set-up and dismantling of displays, events, and recreational activities.
  • Cleans department restrooms for proper working order and operation.
  • Assists as necessary in emptying trash and waste barrels.
  • Paints and makes repairs.
  • Delivers supplies within department and to other County departments as needed
  • Performs other functions of the job, as necessary.
  • SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Receives occasional instruction and limited supervision in regard to daily work duties from Supervisor. Works occasionally at site independently and consult supervisor only as needed.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works indoors and outdoors in adequate work space, lighting, ventilation and temperatures.
  • Works with above average exposure to stress and noise, but subject to frequent disruptions.
  • Subject to call-in work if needed for service or repairs, or to cover for other employees.
  • Requires working at heights when repairing roof, and other painting or ceiling repairs.
  • Potential exposure to hostility, violence or physical outbreaks of irate individuals.
  • Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
  • Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Must possess ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to details
  • Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to stand and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping or driving as necessary to carry out duties of job.
  • Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job.
  • Medium work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 25 -50 pounds; occasionally lifts 100 pound.
  • Must demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to move frequently throughout the work day.
  • Must have average strength and physical endurance and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds as necessary.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of small and large equipment.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with vendors, co-workers and others.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and a willingness to travel as needed.
  • Must possess knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and construction.
  • Must possess knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments.
  • Must possess knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in the care and use of various tools and equipment.
  • Must possess ability to utilize various equipment such as a backhoe, tractor, hand tools, drill press, etc.
  • Must possess ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess ability to accurately and safely complete general repairs and maintenance on heating, air conditioning and plumbing needs.
  • Must possess ability to operate county vehicles used for maintenance and to plow snow in winter and cut grass in spring and summer.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of local codes and regulations and ability to trouble shoot problem areas.
