Job summary

Barnhill Contracting Company is seeking a general laborer to support asphalt paving and grading crews. You will perform unskilled tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, and material handling under guidance, ensuring safety and efficiency on site.

Responsibilities include acting as a designated spotter, using common hand tools, and complying with safety rules. Weekend and some night work may be required; valid NC driver license preferred for future opportunities.

Qualifications

• One year experience but will train the right person.
• Encourage a valid NC Drivers License.
• Willingness to learn multiple task.
• Ability to abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies.
• Maintain a good attendance and safety record.
• Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Job Description

Perform general labor duties including a designated spotter for trucks and equipment on an asphalt paving lay down crew or grading crew.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Performs various unskilled task which are associated with asphalt paving and/or grading operations. This includes but not limited shoveling asphalt, stone or dirt. Uses various tools such as a shovel, rake, lute, broom, pick, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer, drill, tamp and concrete saw. May operate a farm type tractor with power broom attachment. Perform duties of the designated spotter of which training will be conducted.

Minimum Qualifications & Training

Maintain a good attendance and safety record. Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Tasks Essential to Job Functions

The job requires the following motions: standing, walking, stretching, bending, lifting, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching and squatting. Requires regular lifting of or in excess of 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Walking and standing may require a full day of 12 to 15 hours. Will be exposed to sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures. Job requires riding to and from work. If the driving of a company vehicle is required, then the guidelines of the company driver qualifications standards must be met.
