Job Summary:

The General Laborer supports daily field operations on commercial excavation and site development projects. This position performs manual labor tasks related to earthwork, underground utilities, and concrete, and works as part of a crew to complete work safely, efficiently, and in coordination with operators and supervisors.

Work includes physical labor in outdoor conditions and around heavy equipment. Responsibilities involve assisting with trenching and grading, pipe and utility installation, material handling, site cleanup, and general support of excavation activities. The role requires following direction, maintaining awareness of job site conditions, and adhering to all safety requirements.

This position is expected to contribute to overall crew productivity by being reliable, prepared for work, and willing to take on a variety of tasks as needed to keep the job moving.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
  • Previous construction or excavation experience preferred
  • Ability to perform physical labor in a demanding outdoor environment
  • Basic understanding of construction tools and job site practices
  • Ability to follow direction and work as part of a crew
  • Strong work ethic and reliability, including consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on a variety of tasks as needed
  • Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members
  • Awareness of job site safety practices and willingness to follow all safety requirements
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
  • Equipment operation experience or certifications are a plus, but not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50–75 pounds
  • Stand, walk, and work on uneven terrain for the duration of the workday
  • Repeated bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing in and out of trenches and equipment areas
  • Ability to use hands and arms for handling tools, materials, and equipment controls
  • Work in outdoor conditions in all weather, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow
  • Tolerate exposure to dust, mud, noise, and vibration from heavy equipment
  • Maintain awareness and physical coordination while working around moving machinery and active job sites
  • Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors on active construction and excavation job sites
  • Regular exposure to moving heavy equipment, machinery, and vehicle traffic
  • Environment includes uneven ground, open excavations, trenches, and changing site conditions
  • Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, mud, and loud noise levels
  • Work takes place in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow
  • Job sites may vary in location, requiring travel within the region
  • Work is performed as part of a crew, requiring close coordination and communication with others
  • Fast-paced environment with changing priorities based on project needs and site conditions
  • Requires strict adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
