Job summary

Silgan Containers in Saint Joseph, Missouri seeks a dependable production worker to support general manufacturing operations. You will perform machine operator tasks, palletizing, basic cleanup, and assist other operators while adhering to safety and quality procedures.

Training is available to become a certified forklift driver and packaging operator, with opportunities to read blueprints and follow manuals.

Qualifications

• Math skills for basic calculations, decimals and fractions.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Experience using computers, copiers, calculators, scanners and printers.

Responsibilities

• Operate machine equipment feeding materials into and running semi-automatic systems.
• Operate palletizer to stack finished product on pallets.
• Perform cleanup, sorting, and fill in for operators when needed.
• Train to become certified forklift driver, palletizer and packaging operator.
• Read blueprints and drawings, handbook specifications, equipment manuals, part lists, etc.
• Complete paperwork for proper documentation.

Job description

Perform general production functions, to include performing various clean-up tasks, can-sorting, relieve other operations and complete necessary paperwork for proper documentation, while following all safety and quality procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform machine operator functions to include feeding materials into and operating semi-automatic equipment
• Perform palletizer operator functions to include operation of semi-automatic equipment to stack finished product on pallets
• Various clean-up tasks, part sorting, and filling in for operators when needed
• Train to become a certified Forklift Driver, Palletizer, and Packaging Operator
• Read blueprints and drawings, handbook specifications, equipment manuals, part lists, etc.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management

Job Requirements

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, use decimals and fractions
• Good English speaking and writing skills
• Experience using computers, copiers, calculators, scanners, and printers

Experience/Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Requirements

• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to kneel, stoop, crawl, squat, and stand for extended periods while running machinery up to 12 hours
• Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds
