Job summary

Silgan Containers in Rochelle, IL is seeking a Maintenance Helper to support manufacturing operations. You will perform safety-driven tasks, assist in installation, cleaning, basic upkeep, and equipment movement under supervision.

The role requires the ability to work at heights, lift up to 50 pounds, and multitask across 8‑hour shifts with overtime as needed. A High School diploma or GED is required, manufacturing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety regulations and/or directives.
• Keep forktruck clean and report any needed service requirements.
• Maintain hazardous materials room and monitor waste solvent drum level.
• Maintain air compressor/fluid cooler area and check for leaks.
• Assist in installation, leveling, aligning, assembling and moving machines and equipment.
• Safely operate maintenance hand tools and basic power tools.
• Assist in routine bench work and maintenance tasks.
• Assist in miscellaneous piping work.
• Learn requisitions, receipts and preventative maintenance work orders.
• Maintain outside grounds including lawn care and trash removal.
• Perform snow and ice removal and painting tasks as assigned.
• Perform pallet repair and manage pallet return programs.
• Maintain a clean work area and perform other cleaning duties as assigned.
• Assist in training others and attend trainings as required.

Essential Job Functions:

• Adhere to all safety regulations and/or directives
• Keep forktruck clean and report any needed service requirements
• Maintain hazardous materials room by monitoring level of waste solvent drum, notify Maintenance Leadperson as the drum approaches full, check, and fill oil bar dispensing drums as needed, clean floor of oil, rags and debris, mop as needed to maintain cleanliness
• Maintain air compressor/fluid cooler area by keeping the equipment and floor clean of any oil and debris, check for air, water or oil leaks and notify the Maintenance Department of any detected
• Assist in the installation, leveling, aligning, assembling, transporting, erecting, dismantling, loading and/or unloading of various machines, building structures and equipment
• Safely operate maintenance hand tools and basic power tools
• Assist in the performance of routine bench work, maintenance duties such as rebuilding regulators, etc.
• Assist in the performance of miscellaneous piping work
• Learn proper procedures regarding requisitions, receives and preventative maintenance work orders
• Maintain outside grounds in an acceptable fashion. This includes but not limited to grass cutting, trimming, raking, pruning, weed, and trash removal
• Perform snow and ice removal
• Perform painting task as assigned
• Perform pallet repair and control pallet return programs
• Maintain clean work area and perform other cleaning duties as assigned by Management
• Assist in training other employees and Management Trainees as required.
• Attend training sessions as required.
• Exercise proper care and protection of company property
• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Management

• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist level on an occasional basis.
