Job summary

Silgan Containers in Rochelle, IL is seeking a maintenance associate to perform a range of shop floor tasks, from cleaning and painting to assisting with installations and equipment repairs.

The role requires ability to work at heights, follow safety rules, and help train others. Manufacturing experience preferred; high school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety regulations and/or directives
• Keep forktruck clean and report any needed service requirements
• Maintain hazardous materials room by monitoring waste solvent drum levels and cleaning floors
• Maintain air compressor/fluid cooler area and monitor leaks
• Assist in installation, leveling, aligning, assembling, transporting, erecting, dismantling, loading/unloading of machines and equipment
• Safely operate maintenance hand tools and basic power tools
• Assist in routine bench work and miscellaneous piping
• Learn procedures regarding requisitions, receipts and PM work orders
• Maintain outside grounds and perform cleaning duties as required
• Assist in training other employees and attend trainings

Job description

• Adhere to all safety regulations and/or directives
• Keep forktruck clean and report any needed service requirements
• Maintain hazardous materials room by monitoring level of waste solvent drum, notify Maintenance Leadperson as the drum approaches full, check, and fill oil bar dispensing drums as needed, clean floor of oil, rags and debris, mop as needed to maintain cleanliness
• Maintain air compressor/fluid cooler area by keeping the equipment and floor clean of any oil and debris, check for air, water or oil leaks and notify the Maintenance Department of any detected
• Assist in the installation, leveling, aligning, assembling, transporting, erecting, dismantling, loading and/or unloading of various machines, building structures and equipment
• Safely operate maintenance hand tools and basic power tools
• Assist in the performance of routine bench work, maintenance duties such as rebuilding regulators, etc.
• Assist in the performance of miscellaneous piping work
• Learn proper procedures regarding requisitions, receives and preventative maintenance work orders
• Maintain outside grounds in an acceptable fashion. This includes but not limited to grass cutting, trimming, raking, pruning, weed, and trash removal
• Perform snow and ice removal
• Perform painting task as assigned
• Perform pallet repair and control pallet return programs
• Maintain clean work area and perform other cleaning duties as assigned by Management
• Assist in training other employees and Management Trainees as required.
• Attend training sessions as required.
• Exercise proper care and protection of company property
• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Management

Ability to kneel, stoop, crawl, squat and stand for extended periods of time while performing job duties (up to 12 hours a day). Ability to push, pull, bend, climb steps and ladders, walk, and lift on a continuous basis (up to 12 hours a day). Be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist level on an occasional basis.
