Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., is seeking an immediate General Laborer at its Pontiac, MI facility. The role involves processing scrap metals using various equipment and tools.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading, sorting materials, operating mobile equipment, and helping maintenance and housekeeping tasks. A pre-employment background, physical, and drug screen are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Capable of working in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and weather changes.
• Pre-employment background, physical, and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload materials from storage areas, docks, delivery vehicles, staging areas, or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate high‑grade metals and remove non‑conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, street sweeper, and water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor with tools, including hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, saw zall, and wire snips.
• Identify scrap by grade and type and detect undesirable elements within the material.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Assist mechanics in the maintenance of equipment.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general laborer tasks as required.
