Job summary

Truman Medical Centers is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for the UH Lakewood Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. The role involves high-complexity testing on blood and body fluids to support trauma-center diagnostics, with independent work under supervision.

Required are a bachelor’s degree in a lab science and ASCP certification (or AMA-approved training with ASCP eligibility). Weekend rotations are part of the schedule, with a 7:00 AM–7:30 PM shift and 36 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science and ASCP (or equivalent) certification in one or more specialty areas of the laboratory.
• Or, Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science and completion of an AMA approved laboratory training program and eligible for ASCP certification.
• Or, completion of an approved government training program and eligible for ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs tests with high complexity on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease consistent with a level 1 trauma center.
• Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Scientist Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations.
• May be assigned to work in a specialized section within the department.
