Since 1967, Haight Ashbury Medical Clinics has been an innovator in delivering primary health care services to many of the people who can least afford them. “Health Care is a Right, Not a Privilege” has been the guiding principle as well as its famous tagline. Since 1969, Walden House has treated people with mental health and substance use disorder problems at various residential and outpatient centers throughout California, including in-prison treatment programs, and facilities in San Francisco and Los Angeles, providing drug and alcohol treatment and mental health, vocational and housing services for people transitioning back into their communities.

Our state of the art dental clinic offers emergency care, preventative services, and surgical procedures with a focus on restoring the confidence and smiles of the underserved populations of San Francisco. The dental clinic is conveniently located within our Integrated Care Center at 1563 Mission Street allowing easy access to all of HealthRIGHT 360's services. The dental clinic provides compassionate, nonjudgmental comprehensive oral healthcare for adults and children. Our supportive staff is experienced with the complex healthcare needs that can result from homelessness and poverty and is dedicated to serving the community.

Working under the supervision of the Dental Director, the full time Staff Dentist provides professional, high-quality dental diagnosis, treatment and education to a broad range of patients five days per week. Provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintains full appointment schedule for office practice and other settings.
• Provides a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training.
• Utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques.
• Refers patients to specialists and relevant patient care components as appropriate.
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regimens as appropriate.
• Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of dental technical and support staff as required.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards.
• Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure and continuing education requirements.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  
  

Education/Licensure Requirements

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• DDS or DMD degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in general dentistry.
• Current licensure in the state of California.
• Valid DEA license to prescribe narcotics.
• Current BLS CPR/AED certification.
• Active liability (malpractice) insurance.
  
  

Knowledge, Skill And Technical Qualities

• Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery.
• Thorough knowledge of dental terminology and dental science.
• Thorough understanding of the theories, methods and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment.
• Knowledge of community-based dental environment.
• Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work .assignments.
• Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis and treatment.
• Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
• Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care.
• Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress.
• Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage .and instruct patients in correct usage.
• Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients.
