Job summary

Stedi, a leading headless clearinghouse and RCM engine, is seeking a General Counsel to own regulatory questions and shape defensive and offensive legal strategies. You will lead the full legal function across contracts, disputes, compliance, IP, employment, governance, and fundraising, partnering with the CEO and board on strategic decisions.

The role demands 10+ years of relevant experience (in-house preferred) and a JD with bar admission.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience across law firms and fast-paced in-house roles.
• Significant in-house experience, including managing litigations and disputes, ideally at a high-growth company.
• Deep healthcare regulatory/commercial complexity experience preferred; other regulated industries acceptable.

What We’re Looking For

As Stedi continues to scale rapidly, we're competing against legacy players whose defense has been centered on complexity and opacity. We're winning, and our growth is creating legal and regulatory questions where precedent is limited and a standard approach doesn’t always exist.

We're looking for a General Counsel to own the questions that arise in this context, turning regulatory uncertainty into a competitive advantage and novel products into defensible, differentiated offerings. The General Counsel will also shape our defensive and offensive legal strategies – not just manage risk, but actively guide Stedi as it defends its interests and advances its positions. In addition, this hire will lead Stedi’s full legal function on everything from commercial agreements and disputes to compliance, IP, employment, corporate governance, and fundraising.

What You'll Do

• Develop and execute the regulatory and legal strategy to deepen Stedi's relationships with payers, navigating enforcement, compliance requirements, and relationship dynamics with organizations that control access to the market.
• Lead competitive and enforcement matters, defending and advancing Stedi’s interests, where legal strategy directly determines market outcomes.
• Build the legal framework for novel data products that operate in complex regulatory areas, turning uncertainty into defensible product strategy.
• Use legal and regulatory expertise to identify growth opportunities, accelerate deals, and remove blockers.
• Own the full scope of legal for a fast‑growing company, including contracts, disputes, compliance, IP, employment, corporate governance, and fundraising.
• Partner directly with the CEO and board on strategic decisions where legal and regulatory considerations shape the business direction.

Who You Are

• 10+ years of relevant experience between law firms and fast-paced in-house roles.
• Significant in-house experience, including managing litigations and other disputes, ideally while in a senior legal role at a high‑growth company.
• Deep healthcare experience is strongly preferred. Lived experience in the regulatory and commercial complexity of healthcare infrastructure, payers, providers, or health tech is ideal. We'll also consider deep experience in another heavily regulated, high‑complexity industry (e.g., financial services, payments, insurance).
• A true generalist who can solve problems across domains, not just within a specialty. When you hit something unfamiliar, you strive to figure it out rather than refer it out.
• Fast. We move quickly and expect legal to keep pace.
• Commercial and business-oriented. You think like a business leader who wields legal expertise in furtherance of company strategy, not like a lawyer who occasionally considers business implications.
• Philosophical alignment with the Stedi Standards.
• JD and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
