Ulliman Schutte Construction, LLC seeks an in-house General Counsel in Miamisburg, Ohio to act as chief legal officer and trusted advisor to ownership.
The GC will manage legal affairs for Ulliman Schutte, its construction subsidiary and affiliated real estate company, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, managing risks, resolving claims, handling employment matters, and advising management.
Ulliman Schutte has been in business for approximately 30 years and is a national leader in the construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and other water quality infrastructure projects. We build projects ranging in cost from $10 million to $500 million, performing contracts under traditional design-bid-build, design-build, CM at-risk, and other alternative delivery models. Annual revenue is approximately $400 million, and we are a growing, profitable company.
We are seeking an in-house General Counsel (GC) based in our Miamisburg, Ohio office to serve as the company’s chief legal officer and a trusted advisor to the company and its ownership.
The GC will manage the legal affairs of Ulliman Schutte, its construction subsidiary, and its affiliated real estate company, and will occasionally assist the company owners with personal legal matters and estate planning.
This is a senior leadership role for a hands-on lawyer who is comfortable working directly with executives, project teams, and company owners, and who can handle both day-to-day contract questions and high-stakes transactions and disputes.
The GC is the company’s sole in-house lawyer. This is a working role. The GC personally drafts, negotiates, and reviews contracts (including prime contracts, subcontracts, and purchase order agreements), manages risks, resolves claims, handles employment matters, and advises management, rather than primarily directing outside firms. The GC is expected to be a business partner to operations, preconstruction, finance, risk management, and HR, helping the company win work on sound terms, perform it profitably, and protect the enterprise.
The GC should also have experience selecting, managing, and budgeting for outside counsel, whom the GC will engage as needed.
