Job description

The General Cleaning Supervisor is a working evening supervisor responsible for directing assigned cleaners, coordinating shift coverage, verifying service quality, maintaining required records, enforcing safety and campus requirements, and communicating operational issues. The position also performs cleaning duties as necessary while supporting consistent contract performance at the assigned Pellissippi State campus.

Pay Rate:$18.00 per hour

Schedule:Monday - Friday, 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties as needed while ensuring all assigned buildings, areas, and required service frequencies are covered.
  • Clean common areas, entrances, lobbies, corridors, hallways, lounges, conference rooms, vending areas, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, office areas, restrooms, and other assigned spaces.
  • Sweep, damp mop, vacuum, spot clean spills and stains, remove gum or food residue, clean entrance glass and interior glass, dust surfaces, clean handrails, water fountains, elevators, and other high-touch surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including floors, sinks, faucets, counters, toilets, handles, rails, stalls, fixtures, walls, mirrors, dispensers, vents, and assigned locker‑room areas.
  • Empty trash, replace liners, remove waste from buildings daily, transport it to designated dumpsters.
  • Assign routes, tasks, priorities, and special instructions; monitor progress and adjust work assignments based on operational needs.
  • Support special events, semester‑break cleaning, weekend coverage, emergency cleaning, and other assigned campus needs.
  • Inspect completed work against contract schedules, written procedures, and quality standards; document deficiencies and direct corrective cleaning before the end of the shift when possible.
  • Provide hands‑on orientation, training, coaching, and reinforcement on routes, cleaning procedures, equipment use, chemical handling, PPE, security, building access, and campus conduct requirements.
  • Monitor employee appearance, punctuality, professionalism, and adherence to campus requirements; promptly report performance or conduct concerns to Knoxville Operations Manager.
  • Communicate client requests, complaints, service issues, and urgent needs to the Knoxville Operations Manager and assist with timely corrective action.
  • Notify management promptly of absences, uncovered shifts, staffing shortages, incidents, safety concerns, equipment failures, supply shortages, property damage, and security issues.
  • Support required performance inspections and provide accurate information regarding staff knowledge, performance, appearance, conduct, cleaning concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Follow all company and campus safety, security, conduct, and reporting expectations while performing assigned work.
  • Use assigned keys, access credentials, equipment, and campus property responsibly and in accordance with training and site procedures.
  • Maintain professional conduct while on campus and interact appropriately with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and client representatives.
  • Promptly report injuries, unsafe conditions, damage, security concerns, supply shortages, equipment issues, service deficiencies, and incomplete work to the supervisor.
  • Use only approved and properly labeled cleaning products; follow Safety Data Sheets, PPE requirements, equipment instructions, and applicable company and campus procedures.
  • Maintain written procedures and site instructions in an accessible, current, and orderly manner for review by the Janitorial Services Coordinator.
  • Serve as the on‑site escalation point during the evening shift and promptly contact the Knoxville Operations Manager or designated backup for emergencies or issues requiring management response.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to communicate in the English language and follow directions from Institution staff and Premiere supervisors.
  • Ability to read and follow assigned routes, written procedures, safety information, labels, schedules, checklists, and site‑specific instructions.
  • Dependability, punctuality, attention to detail, and ability to complete assigned work within the scheduled shift.
  • Professional, courteous communication with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and client representatives in an occupied educational environment.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively, respond to changing priorities, and promptly report service, safety, security, equipment, and facility concerns.
  • Ability to use cleaning tools, chemicals, supplies, and commercial‑grade equipment safely and according to training and manufacturer instructions.
  • Ability to organize work, communicate assignments, maintain required records, inspect work, coach employees, and elevate? (typo?) staffing or performance concerns promptly.
