Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. Learn more.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible per VA policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the VA or equivalent, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Enrolled residents in approved programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed intermittently or on a fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements include participation in a pre-employment exam.

  • Utilize standard and specialized tests such as electrocardiograms, echocardiography, and angioplasty.
  • Collaborate with cardiac surgeons and supervise cardiology fellows.
  • Perform procedures like cardioversions and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain timely documentation in the electronic medical record system.
  • Work schedule to be determined.
