General Maintenance Technician

Fork Union Military Academy, an all-boys boarding school located in the beautiful central Virginia region near Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking a dependable and motivated GeneralMaintenance Technician to join our team. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming campus for our Cadets, faculty, and staff.

Essential Job Functions

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

General Duties/Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for helping maintain Academy buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities in proper working condition. Responsibilities include:

• Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance and repair needs
• Complete repairs and maintenance through assigned work orders
• Install equipment and appliances as needed
• Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests
• Report maintenance concerns and deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor
• Assist with storm clean-up and other campus needs
• Work collaboratively with other maintenance team members and outside contractors
• Load and unload tools, equipment, and materials into work vehicles
• Follow written and verbal instructions
• Safely use a variety of hand, power, electrical, and plumbing tools
• Follow all Academy safety procedures and regulations

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:0 AM to 3:30 PM
• Some flexibility in scheduling may be required based on seasonal events, emergencies, or Academy needs
• Ability to communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, team members, and other members of the Academy community
• Must successfully pass required background checks and participate in random drug testing

Education and Experience:

• Prior maintenance experience preferred
• Experience with general building maintenance, repairs, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or similar trades is a plus

Physical Requirements:

The position requires physical stamina and flexibility to perform a variety of maintenance tasks. The individual must be able to climb up to five flights of stairs and lift, push or pull up to 60 pounds when required. The position also requires the ability to sit, stand, twist, kneel, squat, reach overhead, and work for prolonged periods depending on the task.
