Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a GenAI Research Scientist to lead end-to-end language model solutions, fine-tune models for insurance tasks, and build robust GenAI pipelines. You will work closely with engineering to productionize research on Kubernetes-based platforms, emphasizing accuracy, latency, and cost.

You will design evaluation suites, ensure guardrails, and communicate complex results to stakeholders while advancing state-of-the-art GenAI methods in a production environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science or related field with 2+ years of experience; or Master's with 4+ years; or Bachelor's with 6+ years.
• Expert knowledge of transformer-based language models and fine-tuning methods like LoRA/QLoRA.
• Hands-on GenAI pipelines including retrieval design, embedding strategies, and vector search.
• Strong Python, ML tooling and MLOps experience; Git-based workflows and model/version tracking.
• Proficiency with PyTorch and the GenAI ecosystem (Hugging Face, LangChain, LangGraph).
• Experience building scalable pipelines with Airflow/Luigi and deploying on Kubernetes/Docker.
• Ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences; track record of moving research to production.
• Experience with distributed training, GPU acceleration and multi-modal models; insurance data knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, fine-tune and deploy language model based solutions from research to production.
• Fine-tune and distill small language models for domain-specific tasks with balanced accuracy, latency and cost.
• Build GenAI pipelines (RAG, corrective RAG, agentic orchestration) with tools and memory.
• Develop scalable data, document and embedding pipelines with MLOps practices for reproducibility.
• Create evaluation suites and guardrails for groundedness, accuracy, safety and regression testing.
• Containerize and ship solutions on Kubernetes with collaboration across engineering teams.
• Research new methods for training and evaluating generative models; share results with the team.
• Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders; participate in cross-functional groups.
