Job summary

The New York Times is seeking a Software Engineer for the Developer AI team. You will help build GenAI-augmented developer experiences and platform capabilities used across the organization. You’ll work with senior engineers to deliver scoped projects that improve how engineers build, test, and deploy software.

You’ll help define how engineers design and operate their own agents, turning experiments into reusable patterns while keeping safety on our internal platform.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering building cloud-native applications (Go)
• 1–2 years improving developer experience through workflows or internal platforms
• 1–2 years working with AWS or Google Cloud Platform
• 1+ years using GenAI tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code as part of daily development
• Experience learning new tools and asking clear questions when requirements are ambiguous
• High level of empathy towards coworkers and existing solutions
• Comfort working in a fast-evolving GenAI landscape with new capabilities and data

Responsibilities

• Deliver GenAI-powered developer tooling, such as prompts, IDE integrations, skills, and telemetry.
• Contribute to the GenAI developer platform: services and integrations built on top of Litellm.ai for local and long-running agents.
• Implement and maintain guardrails and observability for agentic workflows with DataDog, DX, and FinOut.
• Partner with platform and product teams to define how engineers build their own agentic workflows.
• Provide self-service APIs, templates, and documentation for team-specific agents.
• Experiment with new GenAI capabilities and turn successful experiments into scalable paths.
• Collaborate with engineers and managers to design solutions that fit how teams work.
• Demonstrate commitment to our values and the mission to seek truth.
