Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 5 for GenAI Platform Services in San Jose to build responsible, scalable AI systems and agentic workflows. You will partner with cross‑functional teams to design, train, deploy, and optimize AI components, including LLM inference, vector databases, and model governance.

You will mentor senior engineers, influence technical roadmaps, and help advance production-grade AI across Capital One products while ensuring ethical deployment and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies.
• At least 6 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross‑functional team of engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI‑powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, agents and multi‑agent workflows, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
• Invent and introduce state‑of‑the‑art foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, scalability, cost, latency, throughput of large scale production AI systems.
• Lead team design councils or design review boards to ensure technical consistency and compliance with AI engineering standards.
