Job summary

Vitol is seeking an AI Engineer to join the AI team in Houston. This hands-on role will design, build, and deploy LLM-based automation solutions with end-users and stakeholders, delivering real commercial value from day one.

You'll work in a small, high-impact team creating agentic workflows, AI Skills, and MCPs, with autonomy and accountability for deliverables while collaborating across trading, operations, and support functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 3–5 years of professional experience in software, data, or AI engineering.
• Fluency in Python with clean, well-documented code.
• Hands-on experience with prompting and agentic patterns (tool use, function calling, MCP).
• Familiarity with Git and version control.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization concepts.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong communication with non-technical end-users.
• Curiosity for emerging AI developments and domain knowledge in energy/trading.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with end-users across trading, operations, and support to identify automation opportunities and develop LLM-based solutions.
• Design, prototype, and iterate on agentic AI workflows solving real business problems.
• Develop production-ready prompts, AI Skills, and MCPs.
• Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback and refine solutions.
• Translate business problems into technical requirements, designs, and delivery plans.
• Document work and contribute to the team's knowledge base.
