Job summary

Bass Pro Shops is seeking a skilled Gel coat repair technician to touch up imperfections in boat surfaces before assembly. You will mix gel coat, prepare areas with Dremel and sanding tools, and apply repairs using spray or patch techniques.

Ideal candidates will have experience with gel coat repair, color matching, and finishing with sanding and buffing. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and teamwork in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Ability to mix gel coat and catalyst accurately.
• Color matching to repair surfaces convincingly.
• Proficient use of spray guns or blading for patches.

Responsibilities

• Touch up or repair defects in surface gel coat as directed.
• Mix appropriate amounts of gel coat and catalyst for patches.
• Prepare flawed areas with tools (Dremel, sanding) prior to patching.
• Apply catalyzed gel coat via spray or patching.
• Sand, buff, and polish repaired areas after curing.
• Participate in detail audit to ensure repair quality.
• Communicate with lead and supervisor on repairs.
• Keep work area clean and hazard-free.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for touch up and repair of imperfections, scratches, and cracks in the surface gel coat of the boats before they reach the assembly department of the manufacturing process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Touch up or repair defects in surface gel coat, determined by the Auditor. Depending on the type of flaw such as cracks, scratches, pre-release, orange peel, or drill spots, a specified repair procedure is required. 65%
• Mix appropriate amounts of gel coat and catalyst in a small container for use during the patching process. 5%
• Prepare flawed areas for patching by using dremel tools and sanding equipment. 5%
• Apply a specified amount of catalyzed gel coat to the repair by use of a spray gun or by blading a patch. 5%
• Sand, buff, and polish the repaired area after the patch or sprayed gel coat has cured. 5%
• Participate in the detail audit to ensure quality of the boat and/or the repairs. 5%
• Responsible for communicating with the lead and supervisor to determine what repairs will be made. 5%
• Keep area clean and hazard free. 5%
• ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
