Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a part-time GED instructor to support students at probation department sites. You will administer pre-tests, provide individualized instruction, and track progress for each student preparing for the GED exam.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred, and at least one year of classroom teaching. Excellent communication and collaboration with probation staff are essential.

Responsible for being fully knowledgeable in reading, math, science and social studies. Administers pre-tests at the various probation department sites. Works directly with students that are identified to be in need of remedial work to prepare them for the GED Exam. Provides individual instruction and tutoring as needed. Provides weekly progress reports to probation staff indicating progress. Assists with various job skills and introduction to higher education instruction as needed. Assisting and preparing for annual GED graduation. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED; Bachelor’s degree in an education or related field preferred. One-year practical experience in classroom teaching. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with education representatives in the community, program participants, various volunteers and other department employees. Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Minimum 21 years of age.

SALARY: Part-Time, $33.42 per hour

SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday, approximately 28 hours per week (class hours are 8:30am - 12:30pm)

  2. 2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.
  3. 3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
