Description

1. Work Performed: Performs a variety of gear finishing operations that cannot be performed by machine. Hand grinds and finishes all types of gears, splines, and sprockets to required tolerances. Uses hand or bench power tools to break sharp edges, deburr, chamfer, form radii, and finish gears to blueprint specifications or verbal instructions.
2. Selects proper grinding wheels and abrasive materials to hand finish each gear tooth carefully, avoiding burning, nicking, or marring surfaces. Removes the correct amount of material at precise locations. Makes salvage repairs and corrects inspection rejects. May etch, stamp, or mark work for identification.

Qualifications

Tools & Equipment Used: Files, abrasives, band and bench power tools and attachments, etching and marking devices, grinding wheels, measuring instruments, and gauges.

Experience & Other Requirements

Minimum one year of machine shop experience or hand finishing of machined parts.
