Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Data Engineer to join its Enterprise Data Services team. Design and implement scalable data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform, integrating governance, metadata, and AI-assisted tooling to accelerate enterprise data capabilities.

This hybrid role requires collaboration with governance, product, and platform engineering teams and offers opportunities to work with BigQuery, Dataplex, Knowledge Catalog, and modern cloud data architectures.

Qualifications

Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, IAM) and orchestration tools.
Proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering, automation, and scalable processing.
Experience building and supporting enterprise data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and data services.
Knowledge of software engineering practices: version control, testing, CI/CD, modular design.
Experience designing secure, production-grade cloud solutions.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and evaluating AI-generated solutions.
Excellent problem-solving and collaborative communication skills.

Responsibilities

Build scalable, production-ready data pipelines and orchestration workflows on GCP.
Develop integrations between data platforms and governance systems for metadata discovery, lineage, and automation.
Design and deploy secure, observable, cost-efficient cloud data solutions.
Embed governance controls in engineering workflows via metadata capture and lineage propagation.
Contribute to intelligent automation leveraging governed metadata and business context.
Partner with stakeholders to deliver reusable, high-quality engineering solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
Improve operations through automation, monitoring, testing, CI/CD, and Platform Engineering practices.
