Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to support our outpatient gastroenterology practice in Edison. The NP will work independently within established procedures and will refer questionable cases to physicians.

The role includes stroke neurology consults, admissions to the stroke service, and coordination of care to restore and improve health. The position is full-time, daytime hours, M-F 8:30a-5p, in New Jersey.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing required.
• Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license.
• CDS and DEA.
• CPR certification.
• NP Certification.
• NIH stroke scale certification.
• Three to five years of work experience as a professional nurse.

Responsibilities

• Administers intravenous thrombolytics and IV medications.
• Records patient progress notes and transcribes orders.
• Assists with counseling and education functions.
• Billing for patient services per CMS and NJ Board Regulations.
• Develops plan of care with multidisciplinary team.
• Maintains patient records per nursing standards.
• Collaborates with neurology residents and fellows.
• Examines patients and prescribes treatments as indicated.
• Issues prescriptions per Federal & State regulations.
• Orders and reviews lab and diagnostic procedures.
• Reviews lab data and documents.
• Participates in protocol development.
• Obtains complete medical history and physical data.
• Performs evaluations and emergency procedures as needed.
• Performs lumbar puncture under supervision then independently.
• Monitors and ensures continuity of care between physician visits.
• Maintains quality and adequacy of nursing practice.
• Coordinates nursing and training programs on HIPAA/OSHA/Code of Conduct.
• Collaborates with physicians to diagnose conditions.
• Instructs patients about health and illness prevention.
• Educates patients and families about medications and treatment.
