Job summary

Banner Health is hiring a Medical Assistant in Gastroenterology to work with patients after check-in and support providers during exams and procedures. The role includes coordinating referrals, handling scheduling, and maintaining accurate medical records to ensure a smooth patient experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
Completion of an approved medical assistant training program.
Active Medical Assistant Certification required; BLS certification required.
AMT/AAMA/NCCT certifications accepted as valid credentials.
Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at time of hire where applicable.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for exams by taking vital signs and documenting symptoms.
Assist providers with exams and minor procedures, including phlebotomy and EKGs.
Coordinate referrals, pre-certifications, and scheduling; communicate test results to patients.
Provide clerical support and ensure complete and accurate medical records and billing documentation.
Maintain clean exam rooms and sterilize equipment in line with protocols.
Order supplies and manage medication recalls and related tasks.
Develop and maintain effective communication with patients and team members.
Work under the supervision of providers and participate in onboarding/orientation activities.
