Job summary

Mass General Brigham is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to patient care, research, teaching, and community service. This position is located at the Gastroenterology Unit of Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

Summary

The GI Technician performs a variety of duties in the Gastroenterology Unit to maintain a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for patients undergoing procedures. Responsibilities include assisting nurses and physicians, maintaining equipment and supplies, and performing secretarial duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for cleaning and disinfection of scopes
• Clean and disinfect endoscopes following established guidelines
• Greet patients and families in a professional manner
• Maintain and organize supplies, ordering as needed, and stock rooms for the next day
• Assist nursing staff to ensure efficient and confidential flow of information
• Communicate patient information to licensed nurses in a timely manner
• Enter accurate demographic information into the computer in procedure rooms
• Answer telephone calls, screen calls courteously, and relay accurate messages
• File and retrieve patient records, collate charts, and deliver mail to the mailroom
• Assist nurses and physicians to facilitate efficient room turnover
• Escort patients to changing rooms and assist with gowning, locking valuables, and redressing for discharge
• Assist the nurse with patient transfers to procedure rooms, from the waiting room, and to the recovery area

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• 1 year of prior experience as a nursing assistant or medical technician preferred

• Basic clerical skills: organizing paperwork, filing, answering telephones, paging
• Restocking patient rooms
• Ordering and organizing stock
• Cleaning designated equipment
• Providing safe and accurate transport for patients, supplies, and specimens

• Shift: Day, full-time, 40 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.)

Compensation and Benefits
