Job description

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing GI nursing care for all patient populations undergoing GI procedures, including inpatient, outpatient, and patients in Radiology, ED, ICU, and throughout the hospital.

Essential Duties:

• Provides care for patients undergoing GI procedures.
• Endoscopy RNs administer and maintain sedation and analgesia as ordered by the physician.
• Assesses, diagnoses, and intervenes in case of complications.
• Monitors and assesses patients receiving sedation and analgesia during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
• Provides on-call coverage for all three regional hospitals and responds within 30 minutes of call.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Minimum of two years of recent GI Lab experience within the past three years in an acute care setting (e.g., Med/Surg, ICU, PCU, PACU) is strongly preferred, or a new graduate with a senior practicum in a specialty area (e.g., critical care, ED, PACU, or GI).
• Experience in endoscopy is required for Endoscopy RNs.
• Successful completion of department orientation is required.

License/Certification:

• Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license from the Washington State Board of Nursing.
• Current Healthcare BLS Certification.
• Gastroenterology Nursing experience and membership in SGNA are desirable.
• IV competency must be achieved within four months; training is available.
• Certifications such as RNC, CCRN, CEN, GI, or INS are preferred.
