Job description

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

This job is responsible for providing GI nursing care to all patient populations undergoing GI procedures, including inpatient, outpatient, and patients in Radiology, ED, ICU, and throughout the hospital.

Essential Duties:

• Provides care for patients undergoing a GI procedure.
• Endoscopy RNs administer and maintain sedation and analgesia by physician order.
• Assesses, diagnoses, and intervenes in case of complications.
• Monitors and assesses patients receiving sedation and analgesia during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
• Provides on-call coverage for all three regional hospitals and responds within 30 minutes of call.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Previous GI Lab experience, minimum of two years in the past three years in an acute care setting (e.g., Med/Surg, ICU, PCU, PACU) is strongly preferred, or a new graduate with a senior practicum in a specialty area (e.g., critical care, ED, PACU, or GI).
• Experience in endoscopy as an RN.
• Successful completion of department orientation.

License/Certification:

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license from the Washington State Board of Nursing.
• Current Healthcare BLS Certification.
• Gastroenterology Nursing certification and membership in SGNA are desired.
• IV competency must be attained within four months; training available.
• Certifications such as RNC, CCRN, CEN, GI, or INS are preferred.
