Job description

Job Summary

The Engine Drivability & Emissions Calibration team develops, validates, and delivers production engine calibrations for North American gasoline and hybrid vehicle applications. Working closely with global engineering organizations, the team is responsible for vehicle application calibration—integrating engine calibration functions into complete vehicle systems to deliver robust drivability, emissions compliance, and production vehicle performance.

We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Gasoline Engine Calibration Engineer to own one or more engine calibration functions, features, or strategies throughout the product development lifecycle. This role combines hands‑on vehicle development, analytical problem solving, and cross‑functional collaboration to develop and deliver robust production engine calibrations.

The successful candidate independently develops calibration strategies, plans validation activities, analyzes vehicle behavior, and collaborates across engineering organizations to deliver high‑quality calibrations that support program timing and vehicle performance. This role offers the opportunity to own production engine calibration functions from concept through launch while working alongside experienced engineers across North America and global development teams on next‑generation gasoline and hybrid vehicle applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the development, validation, and production release of one or more gasoline engine calibration functions, features, or strategies.
  • Develop and implement calibration strategies that deliver robust drivability, emissions compliance, and successful vehicle integration.
  • Perform hands‑on calibration development and validation using prototype vehicles, production‑intent vehicles, laboratory facilities, and environmental test locations.
  • Analyze vehicle and laboratory data to identify root causes, resolve technical issues, and optimize calibration performance.
  • Coordinate testing activities and collaborate across engineering organizations to achieve program milestones and resolve cross‑functional issues.
  • Evaluate interactions between assigned calibration functions and engine controls, combustion systems, emissions systems, hybrid propulsion systems, and overall vehicle operation to deliver balanced calibration solutions.
  • Ensure assigned calibration functions integrate successfully with the overall engine and vehicle system while contributing to calibration integration, emissions certification, production releases, and vehicle launch activities.
  • Present engineering recommendations, development status, and program risks to engineering leadership.
  • Travel domestically to support vehicle development, environmental validation, certification, and launch activities.

Travel: Approximately 4–8 weeks annually supporting hot weather, cold weather, altitude, certification, and launch activities.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of gasoline engine calibration experience supporting production vehicle programs.
  • Demonstrated ownership of one or more production engine calibration functions, features, or strategies, including development, validation, issue resolution, and production release.
  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, combustion fundamentals, engine controls, and emissions systems.
  • Experience using calibration and data analysis tools such as INCA, ATI Vision, and ETAS MDA (or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of EPA and CARB emissions regulations, emissions certification, and OBD requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan work, solve complex engineering problems, and deliver program objectives with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Seven or more years of gasoline engine calibration or powertrain controls experience.
  • Experience supporting hybrid or electrified vehicle applications.
  • Experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, or calibration optimization techniques.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, GT‑Power, or similar modeling and simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with PowerCal, CRETA, CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar engineering tools.
  • Experience supporting emissions certification, calibration integration, or vehicle launch activities.
  • Experience collaborating with global engineering organizations across multiple vehicle programs.
