The company offers vertically integrated power services, including engineering, construction, operations, repair, maintenance, and research. This role will be responsible for leading the selection of advanced materials for gas turbine components, considering factors like material behaviors, strength, heat resistance, corrosion, fatigue properties, life and cost.

The Gas Turbine Structures Engineer will drive the design, analysis, and optimization of the casing and frame components of gas turbines. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, repair, and quality teams to ensure that these components meet performance, safety, and durability requirements under extreme operational conditions.

Below is a list of the key responsibilities for the role, whilst not exhaustive, that you’ll need to be able to perform.

  • Own component design for critical turbine structures (casings, frames, brackets, housings).
  • Ensure mechanical integrity across extreme operating conditions.
  • Define materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
  • Perform advanced stress, thermal, and fatigue analysis.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate with rotating systems and thermal components.
  • Support manufacturability, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate test and field data into robust, reliable design enhancements.
  • Provide design inputs for assembly processes to ensure ease of assembly and minimize risks during manufacturing and turbine assembly.
  • Support the development and execution of test plans for casing and frame components, including structural, thermal, and vibration testing.
  • Review test results to validate the performance and durability of casing and frame designs, making design adjustments as needed.
  • Investigate field failures or performance issues related to casing and frame components and identify root causes.
  • Propose design improvements based on test data, operational experience, or failure analysis to enhance the overall performance and reliability of gas turbines.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, including CAD models, technical drawings, analysis reports, and material specifications.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, design changes, and technical findings to stakeholders.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and best practices in casing and frame design, including new materials, manufacturing techniques, and design optimization tools.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve designs and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for gas turbine components.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) are preferred. A minimum 3-5 years of experience in material selection, process engineering, or related roles within the aerospace, power generation, or gas turbine industries is required, experience with high-temperature materials, coatings, or superalloys commonly used in gas turbines is highly desirable.

In return our client is offering the opportunity to join a business who are experiencing exponential growth, have strong funding and have a very advanced R&D function.
