Job summary

Department of Public Utilities – Gas Division in Orangeburg, SC seeks an Operator Apprentice to install, maintain and repair gas distribution infrastructure under supervision. You will learn to monitor operating conditions and complete job functions to maintain safety and regulatory compliance.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, and reside within 30 minutes of Orangeburg. Valid SC driver’s license and OQ program certification are required; after-hours standby may be needed as

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by three years of heavy equipment experience in a related work environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response.
• Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
• Must possess and maintain training and certifications as deemed necessary or required by regulation.
• Must maintain certification under the Department of Public Utilities’ Operator Qualification Program in compliance with minimum pipeline safety regulations defined in 49 CFR Part 192, Subpart N.

Operator Apprentice – Gas Division

The purpose of this classification is to install, maintain and repair natural gas distribution system infrastructure for the Gas Division of the Department of Public Utilities. Incumbents in this classification are under close supervision and learn how to monitor and analyze operating conditions and to complete job functions to maintain compliance with applicable local, state and federal environmental and safety rules and regulations.
