Job summary

Stake Center Locating is hiring an entry level Gas Locate Technician to locate underground utilities and promote damage prevention in Canton, IL. You will be trained on the job with 100% paid training and equipped with basic skills to succeed in this role.

You must enjoy outdoor work in all weather, work independently, and problem solve quickly and accurately. The position offers a starting pay of $19.00 per hour, with company-provided vehicle and fuel card, PTO and paid holidays, safety shoe

Qualifications

• Eighteen years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day 2-3 times a week.
• Ability to carry up to 5 lbs of electronic locating equipment; lifting up to 25 lbs with aids.
• Pass pre-employment background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Think Safety First!
• Use a laptop to receive, document and process tickets and email.
• Read maps, interpret blueprints, and determine the best locating method and sequence.
• Use locate equipment to accurately locate underground utilities.
• Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and homeowners.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule (some evenings, weekends, holidays) and respond to emergency calls during on-call rotation.
