Job summary

CJ Hughes Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Gas Distribution Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in a safety-conscious role.

The position involves operating excavators, skid steers, loaders, and other construction machinery on underground utility projects while ensuring safety around utilities and adhering to DOT/OSHA regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience around utilities, be able to perform physical labor in varying weather, and possess or be able to obtain

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
• Experience in gas distribution or underground utility construction preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must pass and maintain required Operator Qualifications (OQs).

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, loaders safely and efficiently.
• Excavate safely around buried and existing utilities while respecting locator markings.
• Perform trenching, pipe installation, backfilling and site preparation for gas pipelines.
• Maintain trench depth, grade and alignment per job specifications.
• Assist with pipe handling and equipment setup; communicate progress and hazards clearly.
