Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Console Operator to manage the Gas Control transmission and distribution system in Columbus, OH. You will balance supply and demand, monitor SCADA data, and coordinate with Field Operations to maintain safe, reliable service 24/7.

The role requires emergency response composure, strong communication, and adherence to PHMSA/CRM policies. Expect a 12-hour Panama-shift rotation, work during emergencies as needed, and a commute within 1 hour of the Arena office.

Qualifications

• Must remain calm during emergencies and work under stress.
• Excellent planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate sound operational judgment and timely decisions with evolving information.
• Collaborate in a close team environment to support Gas Control's operational goals.
• Must pass COBRA aptitude evaluation.
• Must pass color blind test.
• Must pass DOT random drug & alcohol testing.
• Must reside within a 1-hour commute to the Arena office (Columbus, OH).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Operate Gas Control transmission and distribution system to ensure safe, reliable service.
• Document and adhere to PHMSA and CRM policies and procedures.
• Balance gas supply and demand considering line pack, storage, and system requirements.
• Troubleshoot system and alarm conditions using SCADA data and coordinate with Field Operations.
• Escalate abnormal conditions per policies and communicate critical information.
• Operate on a Panama schedule (2-2-3) with 12-hour shifts and on-call adjustments.
• Maintain professional communications and auditable records for regulators.
