Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years professional horticulture with perennial garden design, curation and maintenance.
• One-year alpine plant horticultural experience or equivalent education.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass DMV checks.
• Massachusetts Core/Private Applicator license within 6 months of hire.
• Physical ability to lift 40 pounds and team lift up to 80 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Independently maintain multiple garden areas to high horticultural standards.
• Apply knowledge to plant selection, propagation, soil, watering, fertilization, weeding and pest control.
• Maintain garden infrastructure and communicate deficiencies.
• Design and install plantings guided by policies and plans.
• Maintain accurate plant records in databases and labels.
• Coordinate with staff; prepare work plans for efficient resource use.
• Assist other gardeners and facilities staff as needed.
• Support integrated pest management and safe pesticide use.
• Facilitate research, education, and student engagement with the garden.
• Maintain inventories of supplies and ensure safe spaces.
