Garbage Truck Driver & Grounds Job Description
Reports to: Grounds Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Garbage Truck Driver & Grounds position is to work in the collection of all garbage at the property along with numerous grounds duties. In this role, the individual should maintain a positive rapport with co-workers, residents and provide a high level of detailed follow-up with the Maintenance Supervisor. The Garbage Truck Driver & Grounds position should display a proactive, positive attitude and perform all job functions as described below.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Driving the garbage truck, company truck and golf carts – you must maintain a valid Florida CDL class B license with a good driving record at all times.
- Working with the Garbage Collection Crew to insure safe working habits and retrieval of any spillage.
- Maintaining, cleaning and servicing the garbage truck and supplies.
- Immediately notify Grounds Supervisor of problems, concerns, safety issues, etc.
- Duties involve lifting up to 75#.
- Mowing, blowing sidewalks and streets, weed-eating, stick edging, trimming hedges, raking, weeding plant/flower beds, digging, weed control, planting flowers, shrubs and trees.
- Position could also include moving furniture.
- Maintaining small hand tools.
- Pressure washing sidewalks and buildings.
- Working with the trim crew
- Checking after the crew to ensure receptacle lids are replaced.
- Submitting to periodic physical exams that are required in order to obtain/maintain your CDL certification.
- Working regular shifts and additional hours, when necessary, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Executive Director.
- Following safe workplace rules and practices in order to prevent on-the-job injuries.
- Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality of co-workers, management, owners, past and current residents, and vendors.
- Adheres to established regulations related to the Fair Housing Act.
- Maintains consistent and timely attendance, sets an example for their co-workers in punctuality.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill And Abilities
- Must have a valid Florida CDL class B license with a good driving record at all times
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends; Monday through Sunday, 9am – 6pm
- Ability to resolve resident concerns while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor
- Ability to write and communicate professionally
- Ability to apply sound decision-making
- Ability to demonstrate teamwork by assisting co-workers
- Ability to communicate professionally and adapt interpersonal skills to a variety of audiences
- Must have reliable transportation

- Stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle, feel or grip, and reach with hands and arms while performing standard duties.
- Frequently required to climb stairs, walk, talk, hear, and drive a golf cart while on the property.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
- Frequently use common office equipment, telephone, computer, keyboard, mouse, two-way radio, and variety of different keys.
Position Specifics & Benefits
- Full-time position; Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- 96 hours PTO accrued each year for first two years of service
- 136 hours of PTO each year after two years and above
- 176 hours of PTO accrued each year after 7 years of service
- 401k with 3% employer contribution
- Health/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance available after 30-day waiting period
- 90-day probationary period
