Job summary

Sunoco LP in Kapolei, Hawaii, seeks an experienced heavy truck and trailer mechanic to diagnose and repair major systems, perform PM services, and manage inspections for tractors and trailers. Responsibilities

• Diagnose maintenance and repair problems on major components and systems (engine, transmission, differential, brakes, air, electrical)
• Perform repair and preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers
• Maintain tools, equipment and shop in good condition
• Run PM services on tractors, trailers and straight trucks
• Complete state and federal inspections on tractors and trailers
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with major components
• Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and soundness
• Oversee repair work by outside vendors
• Maintain records and schedule repairs
• Travel to neighbor island for fleet maintenance (25% travel)
• Contain costs by evaluating warranty, service and parts options

Job description

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Diagnose maintenance and repair problems on major components and systems such as:

• Engine
• Transmission
• Differential
• Brake system
• Air system
• Electrical system

Perform repair and preventative maintenance work on the following items; both tractor and trailer:

• Brakes
• Suspensions
• Clutch
• Cab
• Air conditioning
• Tires
• Engine
• Air systems
• Axles
• Fifth wheel
• Electrical system
• Wheels
• Transmission
• Differentials
• Fuel system
• Delivery equipment
• Drive train
• Frame

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

• Perform all tasks in a safe manner
• Work closely with logistics supervisor, fleet manager, transportation manager, drivers and mechanic's.
• Maintain tools, equipment and the shop in good condition at all times
• Perform running repairs, PM services on tractors, trailers and straight trucks.
• State and Federal inspections on tractors, trailers, and straight trucks
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with major components.
• Test drive vehicles to determine problems and to ensure mechanical soundness after repairs have been made
• Oversee repair work done by outside vendors.
• Able to use company issued laptop and or PC. Familiar with MS Office programs.
• Maintain accurate records of PM services and repair work.
• Schedule repair work
• Perform occasional road service
• Maintain and oversee tire inventory
• Order and acquire parts through local vendors
• Correctly code invoices and expenses
• Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
• Maintain equipment fleet on neighbor island (25% travel)
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Works under regular shop conditions
• Mechanic attire required
• May be required to work from other terminal locations

EQUIPMENT USE:

• Skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment

WORK HOURS

• Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
• May be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Rotating on-call shifts

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Frequent reaching, use of eye-hand-foot coordination, depth perception, and wide field of vision for operating miscellaneous shop tools and equipment
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, walking and carrying up to 60 pounds.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

• Demonstrates good independent judgement and organization of work assignments

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

• Interacts positively with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors.
