Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking a qualified Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair company vehicles and equipment at the Cedar Rapids Operations Center. The role requires adherence to DOT/FMCSA regulations, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, diagnostics, field service, fabrication, welding and machining in line with manufacturers’ specs; keeping accurate records and ensuring safety at all times.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 4 years’ experience as Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.
  • DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements (49 CFR Part 40) and FMCSA regulations may apply.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel; CDL may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine scheduled vehicle/equipment maintenance and inspections.
  • Repair hydraulic, electronic or mechanical systems on vehicles/equipment.
  • Interpret symptoms, evaluate and test systems to determine causes of improper operation.
  • Maintain and overhaul vehicle/equipment to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Set up new vehicles/equipment including fabrication work and company markings.
  • Make entries on repair orders and inspections; perform field service calls as needed.
  • Perform welding, gas torch, and simple machining work.
  • Report to work fit for duty and free from drug/alcohol abuse.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, properly provide the maintenance and repair required to maintain Company vehicles and equipment that they may be safely and efficiently operated with minimal down time.

What you will do
  • Perform routine scheduled vehicle/equipment maintenance and inspections.
  • Perform hydraulic, electronic or mechanical repairs or adjustments on vehicles/equipment.
  • Interpret symptoms, evaluate, analyze and test systems to determine causes of improper operation.
  • Maintain and overhaul vehicle/equipment to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Set up new vehicles/equipment including fabrication work and company markings.
  • Make proper entries on repair orders, inspection forms and other necessary documents.
  • Make service calls to make adjustments, inspections and repairs in the field.
  • Perform welding, gas torch, and simple machine work as required.
  • Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Required Experience
  • 4 years experience as Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic
Other Requirements
  • This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations (Part 382
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License prior to the end of trial period
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Travel can include occasional overnight stays.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Mechanical/troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to use computer diagnosing equipment and numerous other test equipment
  • Able to read, interpret and work from manufacturers’ operational and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform electrical arc and gas welding.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform simple machining in the fabrication of parts.
  • Knowledge and application of hand tools as used in a mechanics trade.
  • Able to work a variable or alternating shift schedule/work week.

Pay Range:

$46.48 - $46.48
