Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Garage Mechanic to service diesel and gasoline mobile equipment at our Fresno-area facility. The role offers a competitive hourly wage and full-time benefits as part of a broader compensation package.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of diesel engine experience, familiarity with Cummins Insight and related diagnostic tools, and the ability to work in challenging environments including heat, dust, and confined spaces. A high school diploma/GED is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working on diesel engines.
• Experience with Cummins Insight, QuickServe, J Pro and Service Ranger 4.
• Familiarity with diagnostic mechanic software/computers.
• Familiarity with ultrashift transmissions.
• Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibilities.
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, lift up to 70 lbs., and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours).
• Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground); ability to climb on equipment.
• Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
• Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process.
• Exposure to cement, clay, limestone and various chemicals; see MSDS for more details.
• Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces.
• Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles and overhauls engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends and other assemblies on diesel/gasoline motorized equipment
• Grinds valves, adjusts brakes, aligns wheels, straightens frames and repairs fuel pumps
• Performs welding, brazing, cutting or fabricating on engine powered equipment
• Maintains air conditioning units on all mobile equipment
• Performs repairs and troubleshooting in mobile equipment electrical systems
• Maintains cleanliness in areas of facility
• Performs other duties as assigned

The Garage Mechanic repairs automotive as well as heavy duty diesel plant and quarry mobile equipment.

Compensation

$34 - $40 /hour DOE

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
