Job summary

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking a hardworking, outdoor-driven Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1 to help build, maintain, and enhance Pennsylvania's game lands and wildlife habitats.

In this role, you will operate heavy equipment, construct and repair infrastructure, manage habitat projects, assist with prescribed fires, and work across forests, fields, and rugged terrain to support healthy ecosystems and public access.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of laboring experience using construction tools and equipment; or One year of farming experience using agricultural tools and equipment; or One year of construction equipment operation experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking a hardworking, outdoor-driven Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1 to help build, maintain, and enhance Pennsylvania's game lands and wildlife habitats. Int this role, you will operate heavy equipment, construct and repair infrastructure, manage habitat projects, assist with prescribed fires, and work across forests, fields, and rugged terrain to support healthy ecosystems and public access. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the construction, upkeep, and improvement of State Game Lands and public access areas. You play an important part in habitat development, land maintenance, and safe operations in the field. As a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Land Maintenance: Maintain and improve game lands, facilities, and public access areas with equipment and hand tools
  • Habitat Work: Develop habitat areas, clear borders, and prepare natural spaces for wildlife enhancement
  • Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery, chain saws, and snow removal equipment safely
  • Trail and Structure Care: Build and maintain gates, trails, and wildlife structures on State Game Lands
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety laws, report hazards, and work responsibly in all weather conditions
  • Support Activities: Assist with surveying, posting signs, prescribed burns, and landowner programs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Alternate Work Schedule may apply.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of laboring experience using construction tools and equipment; or
  • One year of farming experience using agricultural tools and equipment; or
  • One year of construction equipment operation experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
  • This position requires the selected candidate to obtain an active Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment in this job.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
