Job summary

The City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts Department is hiring a Maintenance Assistant (Gallery Attendant) for the William D. Cannon Art Gallery. You will greet visitors, provide information, and help with exhibitions in a public gallery setting.

Hours include evenings and weekends, up to 20 hours per week, with duties ranging from opening/closing the gallery to event support and research related to exhibits. Prior gallery experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify.

Responsibilities

• Open, close gallery according to schedule.
• Greet visitors to the gallery, offer information, answer questions.
• Familiarity with exhibition
• Uphold established department policies, procedures and rules of conduct
• Exercise sound judgement and work independently
• Respond to inquiries from public, city staff, artists and partners via telephone, email, written correspondence and in person
• Event and program assistance; logistics, planning, ordering supplies, and working at the events and programs, as needed
• Assist with research related to exhibits
• Assist Cultural Arts staff with additional assignments as needed
