Job summary

The Salvation Army seeks an experienced Program Director in New York to manage a School-Age Care program in line with NYS regulations and government contracts. You will supervise staff, support curriculum activities, and maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities include staff training, reporting, recruitment, and coordinating educational activities. You will also handle payroll, parent engagement, and collaboration with school partners to align with public curricula.

Qualifications

  • Must have Associate or BA/BS degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or a related field and two years direct experience working with children under 18, including supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in lesson planning, curriculum development and implementation of structured programming; teaching credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all required training sessions and staff/parent meetings.
  • Assist in orientation and training of instructors, tutors, mentors and volunteers.
  • Ensure all reports required by DHQ and city agencies are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all employees follow State and School Age Child Care Regulations.
  • Facilitate on-site training such as lesson planning and classroom management to improve program quality.
  • Supervise SYEP participants, group leaders and security guard.
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of staff ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Arrange educational, cultural, and social activities for students.
  • Update DYCD Workscope, Activity Schedule, Holiday Schedule, and Daily Attendance.
  • Create and maintain staff dynamics with monthly meetings and supervision.
  • Review lesson plans for age appropriateness.
  • Recruit students; contact parents if absent frequently.
  • Develop relationships with principals and teachers; reinforce school curriculum.
  • Create and maintain student folders; evaluate progress monthly with principals/teachers.
  • Coordinate daily Town Hall Meetings and student participation.
  • Accompany students on trips; ensure attendance is logged daily.
  • Organize and facilitate pick-up of children from school.
  • Interview and select high school students; review time sheets and reports.
  • Ensure DYCD online is updated as required.
  • Prepare reports for government contracts.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings; know state/local oversight requirements.
  • Ensure program meets government contract requirements and foundation expectations.
  • Prepare payroll for staff.
  • Engage parents and families through diverse methods.
