Our Opportunity

At Chewy, we’re changing the veterinary care experience from the ground up! It starts by creating a culture and work environment where veterinary teams can succeed every day. With the launch of our new veterinary clinics in early 2024, we are looking for a full-time (GA) Veterinary Assistant to join our Healthcare Practice Team. As a clinical team member, you’ll work in a practice designed from the ground up by veterinarians, equipped with advanced equipment and purpose-built technology so that you can practice your best medicine and focus on patient and pet parent care. We offer a customer- and team member-centric work environment where, together, we deliver care that starts with a visit and lasts a lifetime!

Chewy Vet Care is a comprehensive pet healthcare practice that delivers connected care through a gold standard of veterinary medicine. Our mission is clear - to become the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents, and partners, everywhere. This is an opportunity to join the industry leader that not only cares about what you do, but what you need as a person. We’ll provide excellent benefits, scheduling options that fit your lifestyle, and growth opportunities to enhance your clinical and leadership aspirations. Join the team that understands that caring for the pets we love starts with greater care for our veterinary teams.

What You'll Do

  • Support your practice team by providing high-level veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively and deliver a WOW experience to pet parents.
  • Implement policies and procedures, utilize integrated technology, and deliver consistent medical care within your skill set.
  • Assist veterinarians with medical equipment, monitor sedated and non-sedated patients, run bloodwork and diagnostic tests, and handle animal bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Perform basic patient care, record-keeping, and observation tasks such as cleaning, feeding, stocking, triage, obtaining patient history, preparing rooms, and supporting procedures like vaccinations, nail trims, and surgical sterilization.
  • Demonstrate team support, follow SOPs and SOCs, review invoices, communicate effectively with team members, and use practice management systems proficiently.
  • Maintain controlled substance logs, assist with inventory, clean workspaces, and participate in self-development and compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as directed, with possible weekend work and travel.

What you’ll need:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
  • Ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Sr Veterinary Assistant I.
  • Completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program preferred.
  • Passion for helping pets and people, with empathy and customer service skills.
  • Strong communication, observational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical job requirements:

  • Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds, with team lifts supporting heavier weights.
  • Perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, carrying, squatting, and kneeling.
