Graduate Assistant - Teaching: Art

Job Title: Graduate Assistant – Teaching for the Department of Art
Location: Commerce, Texas
Job Type: Graduate Assistant

Proposed Minimum Salary: Commensurate

This Graduate Assistant assists the department chairperson, faculty members, or other professional staff in teaching or teaching-related duties. The role includes both instructional support and academic service responsibilities.

Major / Essential Duties
  • Meet with supervisors to discuss students’ grades and complete required grade-related paperwork.
  • Notify instructors of errors or problems with assignments.
  • Order or obtain materials needed for classes.
  • Prepare and proctor examinations.
  • Evaluate and grade examinations, assignments, and papers, and record grades.
  • Return assignments to students according to established deadlines.
  • Schedule and maintain regular office hours to meet with students.
  • Develop teaching materials such as syllabi, visual aids, answer keys, supplementary notes, and course websites.
  • Lead discussion sections, tutorials, and laboratory sections.
  • Teach or assist in undergraduate level courses.
  • Copy and distribute classroom materials.
  • Attend lectures given by the instructor being assisted.
Occasional Duties
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • Must be an active graduate student at Texas A&M University – Commerce.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and maintain professionalism.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Advancement toward a degree in the field of study related to the position.
  • Familiarity with online teaching.
