Position Summary

The Team Marketing and Business Operations (TMBO) group is a unique in-house consulting arm within the league office that works collaboratively with NBA and G League leadership to grow team & league business performance by promoting best practices and innovation across all teams. This fast-paced and collaborative department is focused on all aspects of team business operations, including ticket sales and service, partnership marketing, fan engagement & development, content creation, digital products, business analytics, and data strategy. The Account Manager - NBA G League role, reporting directly to the SVP, TMBO, will collaborate closely with G League leadership to maximize the business efforts of NBA G League teams, with a specific emphasis on ticket sales, partnerships, marketing, and community engagement functions. In so doing, this individual will consult, train, and teach best practices to the G League teams' Chief Operating Officers / Chief Revenue Officers, and their entire business staff. In addition, this person will also be responsible for developing and leading projects that advance the team business in an innovative way, often drawing on best practices and learnings from beyond sports.

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyze the business operations functions of each team for strengths and weaknesses with the goal of developing and supporting team implementation of best practices in sales, marketing and business operations functions to help:
    • Increase paid ticket sales & in-arena show rate (i.e. attendance)
    • Increase partnership marketing (i.e. sponsorship) revenue
    • Improve ticket buyer retention strategy
    • Improve team marketing, advertising and branding
    • Implement community & fan development initiatives
    • Develop locally focused strategies and team business plans
  • Build trusted relationships with key team leaders to effectively communicate opportunities, and also to facilitate adoption and implementation of best practices
  • Make follow-up site visits to team markets to support effective and expeditious implementation of key recommendations
  • Collaborate closely with G League President and key stakeholders in the League office to ensure alignment between League and team strategic initiatives
  • Present at internal and team-facing league meetings regarding the overall state of the G League team business and opportunities for growth
  • Integrate with broader TMBO staff to share best practices and find solutions for team challenges
  • Assist with TMBO workshops and other meetings as needed to learn about and support growth of G, W and NBA league & team business

Required Educaton/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.Advanced Degree Preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in a fast-paced business environment

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes

  • Deep expertise in ticket sales and service, and/or partnership sales and service, ideally in a sports team environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Self-starter mentality and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Passion for sales and success in developing and executing sales/marketing plans
  • Sports industry experience
  • Willingness to travel to travel frequently to team markets (and NBA New York City office as needed)

Salary Range:$175,000 - $190,000
