Job summary

MCPS is seeking a dedicated school counselor to provide comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling to students in areas of academic achievement, career education, and personal/social development. Under direction, you will serve staff, parents, and the community.

Qualifications include a Master’s in school guidance and counseling and Maryland state certification. Experience as teacher/counselor preferred. Willingness to attend meetings outside instructional hours as required.

Acts as a consultant in this regard to staff, parents and community.Physical Demands:As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.Special Requirements:Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of adolescents. Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written materials. Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with staff, students, and parents. Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment. Ability to use the computer for on-line scheduling. Excellent oral and written communication skill^s with the ability to speak effectively to both large and small groups. Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with many different types of individuals and groups

Education Training Experience:

Master^s degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling; Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
